Ada Jonuse adds Tech dimension to W@ with an inaugural event on Blockchain in Vilnius on 21 September.

We are delighted to announce that Joy Fuyuno and Renata B. Hesse are launching W@CompetitionAsia and W@CompetitionAmericas respectively. We look very much forward to their projects that will put ever more women competition professionals on the radar.

On 16 February, W@Competition hosted its first full-day conference on contemporary competition developments.

A number of renowned women competition professionals and new faces from enforcement authorities, judiciary, in-house, private practice and economics have shared insights in panel discussions and speeches on a ray of topics, ranging from merger control, e-commerce, rebates to private enforcement.

The day kicked off with a candid exchange between private practitioners and officials from the German Bundeskartellamt and European Commission (EC) over the future of merger control in Europe.

During the second panel, DG COMP case handler Szilvia Szekely told attendees the latest on the EC’s e-commerce sector inquiry from.

A third panel, featuring a judge from Spain’s Audiencia Nacional and the legal director of Slovakia’s competition agency, explored the practical implications of navigating national laws implementing the EU damages directive.

Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt, came to Brussels to deliver the keynote address to a mixed audience of more than 200 delegates. This was followed by a lively debate on the question of how to advise on rebates after Advocate General Nils Wahl’s opinion in the Intel case currently pending before the Court of Justice.

A panel discussion with senior competition officials rounded off the extraordinary day. Gabriella Muscolo from Italy’s AGCM, and the CMA’s Ann Pope, discussed enforcement trends with peers from the German, Irish and Portuguese authorities. Natalie Harsdorf from the Austrian BwB announced her agency planned to launch a sector inquiry into the healthcare sector, while Maria João Melícias, from Portugal’s AdC revealed that her agency’s investigators had recently carried out their fourth raid of 2017.
